Crazy but curious question, newer silverware ink? stamped country of origin or laser etched?

I'm noticing on some of the newer pieces of Silverware I get, as opposed to older/vintage silverware the country of origin is now stamped on the bowls of spoons and below the tines on forks. I got a couple of Reed and Barton Seashell teaspoons recently and that's what really piqued my curiosity. Is this ink and does it rub off and or get in food over time?

I emailed Reed and Barton just to ask and they couldn't say, all they could say is there in the middle of being bought out and there is no one left in the office.
