Crafted -- new bagel etc place on UWS

JackieR | Nov 24, 201408:28 AM     13

I was walking by Crafted on Friday and stopped in to ask when they are opening. They were, apparently already open, although official "Grand Opening" was to be yesterday. I took a look around and they seemed to be stocked with a nice variety of salads, spreads, etc. Menu says they will have pizza, panini, salads and soups. The owners were extremely friendly and we chatted a while. As I was leaving they offered me a pull-apart challah, which I took with some hesitation as we are not fans of "bought" challah. When I can't bake I usually get something like a sourdough boule.

Well, I have to tell you THE BEST BOUGHT CHALLH EVER! It was exactly to the right degrees sweet and salty, and had a great, slightly chewy, slightly crusty and yet still fluffy texture. The people at my shabbos table suggested that perhaps it was made using their (pareve) croissant dough.

If their other offerings are that good, this place is a winner.

My only criticism is that despite the big, bright space, at the moment they have only a communal table. Not sure why -- the space does exist, and the hood is crying out for a dairy place like this where we can sit down.
