Craft vs. Blue Hill for a group birthday dinner

Peter in the Heights | Apr 10, 2004 11:26 AM

I'm visiting from the Outer Borough Boards where I spend most my time.

I'm coming up on my 34th birthday and as is my tradition, I'm taking 6 or 8 of my good friends out for dinner.

I was all set to take them to Craft, my favorite NYC restaurant. I called just 2 hours after they opened reservations for the day in question (May 8) and all they had was 9:15pm. ARRGGG! Since there are some parents in need of babysitters for the night in question, I'm afraid that's going to be too late.

I was wondering, I've heard good things about Blue Hill. What do you people think? How does it compare to Craft?

I love Craft for the quality of the food, the friendliness of the service, the not-too-loud liveliness of the room, and especially for the "sharing" aspect of the way the food is served.

I know Blue Hill isn't going to be served "family style ", but other than that, what do you think?

I guess my primary concern is that I have the sense that it's a bit stuffier... (maybe an older crowd?) than Craft. I don't know why I think this, I just do.

Opinions? Suggestions for yet a third contender? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)
