Just back from a weekend visiting Indianapolis and had some stellar dining experiences.

Bluebeard:
Had on a couple of occasions during a previous trips and loved it, but was even better this time (so fantastic we went two evenings in a row). This is farm-to-table Contemporary American cuisine at it's best. Fantastic menu; lots of enticing choices and regardless of what you end up ordering it is well executed, attractively plated and delicious - from the small plates all the way through dessert (the chess pie is a must). Really love the space here but what elevates the experience is the staff - such friendly, down-to-Earth people. We greatly enjoyed sitting up to the bar (you can order off the full menu) since the people are so charming. Nice selection of craft beers, but the cocktail program here is fantastic; wonderful selection of craft and small batch spirits and phenomenal cocktails (highly recommend the Galapagos - a spicy, smoky riff on a Maragarita) and their version of a Boulevardier.

Milktooth:
Perhaps the best restaurant in the United States' not open for dinner. Like with Bluebeard we had such an amazing brunch here our first full day in town we returned the next day. This is what you receive if you have a chef more than capable of helming a Michelin starred restaurant but who opted instead to operate a casual, inexpensive breakfast/lunch/brunch venue. Reminded me some of my favorite Chicago brunch restaurant (Jam) but what elevates Milktooth even further is the space is beautiful and stylish (a converted service garage), there is a top notch pastry program and also an excellent coffee and breakfast oriented cocktail program. The menu is also even a bit more bold and creative than Jam. As with Bluebeard the front-of-the-house staff are so friendly it elevates the meal even further. On weekends expects big crowds (and likely waits) but it is well organized, there is a nice vibe and what is clever is you can order coffee and pastries as you wait. If available, IMHO the best seats in the house are the bar stools at a counter gazing into the open kitchen - so much fun watching the chefs work their magic.

As someone who has dined at many of the "best" restaurants in the country across numerous different cities, these are not just great venues "for Indianapolis" - these are upper echelon restaurants that would be extremely popular and successful anywhere and IMHO should be considered among the best in the country in their category.
