A couple of Baltimore moments

Just a couple of good food moments this past month.

1) Mastellone Deli. I went in during off-peak hours, and Ace made me a killer hot sandwich from roasted marinated pork, yellow peppers, and fontina. I then enjoyed a quick shot of espresso, which was delicious and, well, perfect. Kudos to Tim and Ace for popping out an espresso with perfect crema when the technique apparently escapes 75% of the expensive restaurants in town.

2) Chameleon Cafe's Charcuterie platter. I could do without the fruit compotes and sauces personally, but I love this collection of house made pates and sausage. I plan on making my next meal an order of this, an order of their great beet salad, and maybe a bottle of Normandy cider OR a bottle of Alsatian gewurztraminer.

3) Petit Louis is celebrating the Lemon right now. They have grilled asparagus drizzled with lemon vinaigrette and topped with a little Parma. But the real reason to go in is the calamari braised in white wine, broth and lemon juice, then finished with a little butter and chunks of preserved lemon. I haven't had calamari that good in a looooong time, maybe even never. Don't know how long it will last on the menu but it is worth the trip.
