I was visiting my parents last week when the subject of Corned Beef and Cabbage came up. My mother (from Ireland) and two of her sisters (from Ireland) had each had their first taste of it over here. It's something that is NEVER served in Ireland. It's not served as a combo because Corned Beef is unknown in Ireland. The mashed cabbage served with it is also not something an Irish person would be familiar with. I remember store clerks remarking to my mother when she would go by and pick the green cabbage leaves that everyone else had left behind. Once in a movie, Brad Pitt, playing an IRA man, is sitting down with Harrison Ford, who's wife had prepared CB&C especially for him. 'This is a nice cut of meat, what do you call it?' says Brad. They look dumbfounded, but tell him that it's corned beef. 'Tasty, Never had it before' he replies.
