Cooking in Paris

Anne Emry | Dec 3, 2003 12:33 PM

I will be visiting ma cousine in a couple of weeks. While I don't have the deep pockets to enjoy the three stars that I read about with pleasure, I am looking forward to an even greater luxury: a real kitchen in Paris.

She lives in the 17th, and is amenable to letting me cook a few meals for her family. I have been referring to Patricia Wells for food shopping tips, but I don't feel like I'm getting the lay of the land.

What markets will be open this time of year in that area? Is it worth the effort to go to a further one for produce?

What are the "do not miss" sources for meat (poulet de Bresse), cheese, fruit (I keep hearing about English apples), baked goods.

I am planning on stops at Laduree, Debauve & Gallais, Denise Acabo, and Mariage Freres. I'll probably just window shop at Fauchon. Oh, and a few museums.

Merci mille fois!
