Cooking emergency- thawing frozen chicken?

I bought a whole chicken early yesterday morning; got it home and in the fridge immediately to thaw. It's about 5 pounds so assuming even 7 hours per pound I figured it would be done by the time I got home from work late tonight and I could start it in a brine before I went to bed.

Of course, I took the plastic off without paying attention and found it still mostly frozen. No big deal, I'll put it in water and brine it tomorrow (it's getting cooked Wednesday).

Except in my exhausted from work state of mind, I forgot to put the chicken in a plastic bag and honestly, I don't actually have one large enough. I didn't realize until just now; it's been in water in the fridge less than half an hour at this point.

Will the chicken be ok, or is it going to screw with the taste? Should I go ahead and put it in the brine if it's going to thaw wet? Basically how do I salvage this little mishap? Ideally I'd like a solution I can manage quickly because it's already 11 pm here and I need to be up early in the morning to travel for a funeral.
