The NEW Conte's in Rockland, Maine: Just like the old one

Mister Meatball | Aug 24, 2010 01:41 PM

As a Conte's regular, naturally I feared what moving to a new location would mean to my beloved (and totally disreputable) hangout.

I've been to the new place a couple times already, and will be going at least twice more in the next month (out-of-town guests are demanding it, despite it being 2 hours from my place), and all i can say is, Hallelujah!!!

John Conte has pulled off a remarkable feat. The new place looks just like the old one. I couldn't believe my eyes.

The food? No change whatsoever. Conte is still a master at preparing fresh seafood. Portion sizes? Also the same; the guy's never met a dinner plate that he couldn't fill to overcapacity.

Jeannie, the waitress? Still as wonderfully surly (and lovable) as ever. (Even though she told me that I suck:

Look, the place isn't for everybody, okay. But it's a treasure. I'm glad it's still around. And even gladder that it didn't change.

Bravo, John Conte!

Va Bene.
