I went there for dinner last week and it was poor. The chef there Dean Timpson is all marketed on their Heritage hotel pamphlets. It only has 2 Rossettes but prices are for 4 Rossettes! Also the advertising says, "The chef has stars in his sight - Michelin Stars." BOLLOCKS. The dining room there caters for over 50 covers per evening so OBVIOUSLY he cant get a michelin star unless they make the dining room smaller.Anyway, onto the food:
Starter - i had a langoustine, fried oyster and lobster assiette in a langoustine sauce with a little salad in the middle. Very dull and tasteless. the salt shaker was almost empty. Alos the Maitredee couldnt explain what was on my plate when i asked him!!! He went to ask the Chef (!!) and then came back to me and told me what was what. Idiot.
Main - Assiette of Pork. Nice and flavoursome which included pigs trotter and some tender fillets of pork accompanied by a sweetish sauce and fondant potatoes.
My colleagues had 2 Dover Soles which were very nice and fresh.
Pudding - A very poor walnut and pistachio soufffle. It was small and rather empty inside. The souffle was already opened when it came to me and was very eggy, tasteless and had no trace of any nuts and no gret flavour to itNot impressive at all. Im glad i was ok after eating it.
The Sommalier was an arrogant so and so and was too busy chatting to other staff insteading of topping up wine. i had to do it myself . Thats when he noticed! Twat. Furthermore, the maitredee there, a small balding man, was PISSED! You could smell it on his breath and furthermore he banged into the table twice. Rather funny really. AND he brought the credit card receipt to the wrong peron after taking it to the host in the first place. He was very merry and that wasnt the first time apparently.....
All in all - The Angler is a marketing tourist trap. The Timpson touch certainly didnt work on me. The Angler 10 or 20 yers ago was however a culinary haven and a benchmarker in quality and elegance of its food. Now the hotel chain machine ahs kicked in, thereby depriving the people of marlow of a descent restaurant. Come on Heston - Find somewhere quickly in Marlow for The fat Duck II !
