I posted on this board this summer, looking for places to stop on the drive from Selma to Charleston. One place we discovered was The Overall Company, in Opelika. It was a wonderful oasis on our long hot drive - a lovely old building housing top flight coffee and snacks like pimiento biscuits or salads or pastries, and even a wide variety of home made popsicles (they have lots of flavors, but the coffee and the chocolate were our favorites). They do wine tastings and events as well, but sadly we were just passing through (twice, once coming from Atlanta to Selma, then again on the way to Charleston).
The espresso drinks were delicious. We are huge coffee buffs and roast our own beans at home and haunt third wave coffee spots like Ritual and Andytown and Scarlet City when at home in the SF Bay Area. The Overall Company had coffee flavor and barista skill to match all of those hip urban spots, but with a friendly Southern charm that made us fall utterly in love. The baristas were very outgoing and happy to talk coffee beans with us. We tried multiple cappuccinos, a mocha, and an iced espresso - all were very good, strong and well balanced between a light roast and slightly darker to bring out the deep notes. If the Overall Company were anywhere near San Francisco, I would drive a long way to hang out there.
