A place named Tazza was trying for months to open on Atlantic Avenue, then gave up. Now they're setting up at 311 Henry, site of the former Café Del Mar, and from the outside looking in the window, the furniture and equipment appears to be in place and I should think they're nearly ready to open. In fact I thought they might make it by Labor Day, but they seem to be taking their time.

Actually, the web site isn't up yet, but the owners must be confident as they've printed it along with the phone number on a post card which is taped up in the windows.
The name suggests they may be chiefly a store, but we'll see. According to the information in their window, they'll be offering "coffee, baked goods, artisanal breads, panini, and select wines, aperitivi & digestivi." In effect, a café, a block or so north of the Jam for Bread Café. I see a counter for take-out but also a bar and tables for sit-in customers; they might do the sidewalk thing too as Del Mar did, no way of knowing yet.
The name is not original. It evokes a famous caffè in Rome, and closer to home, there's a Tazza Restaurant and Bar on 8th Avenue. Don't know whether this Tazza is related to either or both of the others.
