Colvin Run Tavern: Quick Review

Bob W. | Jan 17, 2003 10:17 AM

Finally made it to Colvin Run Tavern yesterday, courtesy of a fairly high-rolling acquaintance in town for a brief visit.

The food is very good. We stuck to seafood -- crispy squid, spicy barbecued tuna, and nantucket bay scallops. The squid was coated with a very light, greaseless batter. The tuna packed a real wallop. The scallops were as sweet as only truly fresh scallops can be. I would have like to have seen a few more on the plate, though.

The dessert list was impressive. I got apricot creme brulee, which I ordered only because I'm an apricot addict (I think its my middle European heritage at work). Quite delectable.

Wine: we got a half-bottle of a Corton Charlemagne and a half bottle of Etude pinot noir from Calif. Not exactly your everyday quaffs. LOL

Coffee was very good.

Unfortunately, this is not cheap eats & drinks. The tab pre-tip was $160 (I'm good at reading upside down). But if your $$ is burning a hole in your pocket and you're not into Tysons Corner steak joints, this would be the place to go.
