Columbia/Dutchess -- blueberries and corn; apples, too.

For those of you into picking your own, which seems to have diminished in the last year, Grieg Farm in Red Hook is picking blueberries at $2 p/qt. There's a caveat: an infestation of harmless tiny white worms in one area; pick at your own risk. I did and unearthed no more than six of the worms over 7-8 quarts of berries picked over less than an hour on Friday. Tons of berries.

Corn is in, finally. What I got in both Columbia and Dutchess counties this seemed picked too soon -- too young. What I brought back from the Berkshires last week was superb.

Apple orchards in the neighborhood look good this year. Trees down the road are loaded as are those in all the orchards around, which is everywhere. I hope the orchard owners can recoup some of last year's awful losses.
