Recently, I had a wonderful Manhattan made with Black Button Bourbon and Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters. (The Luxardo cherries didn't hurt the cause either.) Yesterday, I visited Fee Brothers' only retail outlet and went a little crazy buying four different bitters (Aztec Chocolate, Black Walnut, Lime, and West Indian Orange) and one brine (Zesty Dill Pickle Brine).
There is a Chow thread on this topic, but it dates back to 2009 and, for the most part, focuses only on Fee's Old Fashioned Bitters. I've also found the page on the Fee web site listing the company's recipes, but most of what is posted calls for three Fee products per recipe and no recipe calls for the particular combination I purchased.
The Aztec Chocolate is stumping me the most. It evokes the historic way the Aztecs drank hot chocolate, dark and chile-spicy.
All suggestions welcome including specific proportions for obvious cocktails like Lime Bitters in Margaritas or Pickle Brine in Bloodly Marys.
