Just a quick post, had a few nibbles there last night. Originally tried for the Bev Blvd location, but the parking was awful, so we drove over to Hollywood. Arrived about 7.30, place was fairly empty, we were seated immediately.I tried the sangria, not bad. I have spent a lot of time in Spain, so I asked the waiter how they made their sangria, he replied that they used left over wine, which I thought was rather an odd thing to say!!! Although I knew what he meant, my friend says she was put off by that, so she had a glass of rioja!! The waiter also said that as I was only having a glass, there wouldnt be any fruit in my glass!! He explained that the fruit wouldnt fit into the glass,as they used large pieces of fruit, again, I thought this was a little strange, I have enjoyed many a glass of sangria over the years, its always had fruit in it, really, its not hard to cut up the fruit so that it fits into the glass, the fruit is actually the part I love, it gets soaked with the wine and I think its as yummy as the tequila worm!!?? Turning to the food, we had the lentils with jambon serrano, very good, in fact, we both swooned over this dish, the lentils were crispy, and there were crunchy pieces of jambon serrano in there too, I could eat an entree sized portion of this dish.We also had the tortilla with patatas and chorizo, too eggy, not enough potatoes, tasted nice but I make a mean spanish omelette myself, and this one was really a shadow of what it should be.Lastly, we tried the bruschetta, with manchego cheese and ham, very nice, but nothing spectacular. All in all we both agreed we would go back, the bill was $47, which included 3 plates of tapas, 2 glasses of red, and 2 glasses of sangria, I could see how the bill could be a little steep if you ordered 4 or 5 tapas, it would be easy to get carried away with the ordering!!!
One final point, I really think that tapas bars should have an actual bar, its the quintessentail part of a tapas bar, thats how it is in Spain, and I think it makes for a very enjoyable evening, sitting on a bar stool, sipping good wine and chowing on a plate of tapas. What do you expect, I am English, we love propping up bars......!!!
