Cleaning an in-freezer ice maker- need help.

AthenainVegas | May 25, 2008 05:02 PM

I live in a house shared with three other roommates. I have stopped using ice, because of the buildup in the system. It is the kind that is inside the freezer, (not available from the door) and I have taken the tray out and cleaned it, but I need to know if there's a way to clean the mechanism itself, as it still puts out ice with black flecks and mineral deposits on it.

Using ice cube trays is not an option, as there is currently four people's food in the tiny freezer. Is there a way to clean the system myself, or is it something that can only be done by a pro? I would really like to be able to have ice, being as I live in the desert.

Thanks in advance.
