Well over a year ago I posted a query searching for anhy info on my favorite Argyle storefront, Nha Trang, which had disappeared virtually overnight.
Many months later, when the post had drifted far down the column, I got off-board emails from 2 different people who had been idly scrolling, saw my post and answered it.
The restaurant had moved way out to 3711 W. Belmont. A major hike for a carless family, but we made it out and had a heart-warming reunion with the lovely couple who own the place. The new spot is virtually identical in size and layout, but infinitely brighter and cheerier that the Argyle spot had been. (That spot is now Pho Tank; a most worthy addition to the strip.)
Recently, one of the folks who alerted me to Nha Trang's new whereabouts emailed to say that she would be in town (she's ex-Chicago, now LA) and to suggest a get-together at our mutual haunt.
And so we did. Made the acquaintance of a fellow hound, hugs and updates on family news with the propriators, and ate our way through all the old menu favorites: spicy lemon chicken, tofu and veg. in coconut curry, pristine crispy, non-greasy eggrolls, crunchy, agreeably greasy fried wontons, chicken/ginger in clay pot, wonderful bowl of soup, dumpling, and noodles for the 3 1/2 year old.
Beth, our new friend, also brought us the gift of stuffed grape leaves from Pittsburgh, Lebanese style, which she gave us as we parted. Delicious, tightly-rolled cigars with more meat adn less rice than one sees in Chicago. Delicious.
All thanks to the existence of CH and the CH community. So, all-in-all, I can live with the moderation.
