clams before the beach

That's the time to avoid the lines at the Rt. 133 clam shacks it seems. I stopped by Farnham's before hitting Wingaersheek at 12:30 on Sat. and both they and Essex Seafood were uncrowded (should have driven up further to check out Woodman's). Was torn between clams and a lobster roll and since the latter w/ onion rings was only $12.95, I went with that (clam roll was $13.50, plate was $17 or so). Great grilled bun with lots of lobster, little mayo, no celery and a little lettuce. I would have preferred no lettuce and a little celery but it was pretty good. Altho it lacked the extra little oomph of flavor you sometimes get in a lobster roll. Which was somewhat offset by the salty not too greasy but slightly overdone onion rings. It hit the spot tho and I wolfed it down in about 10 min. Was so tempted to ask some people at the counter to taste just one of their very good looking clams but didn't want to get an "are you insane" look. If I'd known they were on a motorcycle at that point, I would have given it a shot.

Fornax Bakery in Roslindale Sq. makes their own raspberry pop tarts which were pretty good, flaky pastry makes a difference. I found their plain croissant to be on the greasy side tho, and can never get there early enough for chocolate.
