Clam Strips at the Shrimp Shack

AndreaOK | Jul 14, 2003 12:12 PM

There's a new place next to Barry's pizza on Broadway and Ardmore called the "Shrimp Shack". We happened to be walking by on Saturday and were hungry enough for a snack so we stopped in.

We ordered the "mini crab cakes" and the clam strips. The mini crab cakes were a disappointment - I don't think people should be allowed to call something a "crab cake" if it's made with imitation crab. They weren't awful, they just weren't crab cakes.

The clam strips, on the other hand, what a surprise! I'm a New England girl and I know my clam strips. These were meltingly tender with a lightly seasoned, nicely crisp batter. And they give you a pile of them. All I needed was a grilled flat-top hot dog bun to stuff them in and I could have closed my eyes and imagined myself chowing on a clam roll from the Lobster Hut in Plymouth, MA.

They are open late and they deliver. Our experience was 50/50 because of the "crab" cakes, but the clam strips and what seem to be reasonable prices have earned them a return visit.
