City Bakery Rant

David | Mar 3, 2006 08:12 PM

I have a love/hate relationship with the City Bakery and I'm afraid it's becoming a lot more hate these days.

I find the pastries to be some of the best in town, even worth the super-high prices. The salad bar is also full of tasty, fresh, and healthful food.

I find the atmosphere becoming grungier every day, however, and this puts a real damper on enjoying this place. Tables are almost never clean, the floor always looks grimey and the salad bar presentation has become depressing.

The refrigerator for drinks is more often than not out of repair and drinks are so hot that a cup of ice will only melt on contact with the drink.

They never seem to open on time and often do not let me in awhile before the official closing time.

Today, I asked for a cardboard bowl of macaroni and cheese, a very modest portion really, and was shocked that the price was $13.42.

I feel this place has so much to offer yet is doing everything to turn me away lately. Anyone else experience this?
