This little restaurant in an unlikely setting in a Safeway anchored strip mall is serving up some excellent Hainanese chicken. You wouldn't expect it from looking at the location outside.
They started off with a clear soup that was infused with rich flavours. Looks can be deceiving, and this soup had much more complexity than expected at first glance. It also had some nice surprises inside like boiled peanuts and beans. Great start.
Although the rice looked straightforward upon first glance, it was nicely oiled. It was nicely infused with flavour and cooked perfectly.
The star of the dish was of course the Hainanese chicken. They provided a very generous portion, and had taken the extra step of deboning it for you so that it was an even bigger portion than I thought upon first glance - those initial looks can certainly be deceiving! Yes, that plate of chicken you see in the photos is all meat - no bones propping it up! It was prepared perfectly. The chicken had the perfect amount of gelatinous skin and tender gentle ginger flavours. Of the two provided dipping sauces, the diced ginger one truly enhanced the flavours. Overall a very solid offering.
