Cinnamon rolls??

Eric Malson | Jul 10, 2002 05:29 PM

Has anyone found any good cinnamon rolls in this town? (preferably Manhattan, but if they're extraordinary, I'd be willing to travel a bit) I went on a quest several years ago and came up completely empty-handed.

My personal ideal cinnamon roll is incarnated at Ann Sather in Chicago, if anyone is familiar with those heavenly creations....moist, rather dense, palpably "homemade" in quality. No nuts, no raisins. And the chains don't cut it....T.J. Cinnamon's are ok, but I find Cinnabon disgusting--too light, nasty frosting, too sweet without solid flavor under-pinning, if you know what I mean, and I just don't think cinnamon rolls need to be the size of softballs.

I do know that the Ikea cafeteria has respectable ones, but they don't come anywhere close to the Ann Sather paragons, IMHO. And being carless, Ikea is not at all convenient to reach anyway.

Maybe it's just a Scandinavian/Midwest kind of thing and it ain't gonna happen in this town, but any leads would be greatly appreciated!
