chubo - a clinton gem

My wife and I had dinner at Chubo last night and we have nothing but raves for the place. My wife had the bento chirashi appetizer and it completely met her standards -- she is Japanese and quite picky about Japanese food. I had the vegetable napoleon in tomato coconut sauce and loved it too.

The main courses were perfectly prepared too. Meat in the mixed grill was cooked to be tender and red. I had the chicken dish, which was served on a fantastic watercress salad. Althought the babaganouj was nothing to write home to Casablanca about, the complete package worked beautifully and was delectable.

For desert we shared the upside-down pineapple cake with curry-sesame ice cream. These flavors blended together to produce something exquisite.

The only disappointment here was that service was too fast. Never hurried, but IMHO I don't think the topic of desert should even be raised by wait staff until the dinner wine is finsihed. This is hardly a fatal flaw and I will know next time to order the desert, which requires 20 min preparation time, only after finishing the main courses.

It is amazing to have a meal this perfect for about $100 for two with wine. We would recommend Chubo to anyone.
