Chuan Yu Bistro is a new-ish (grand opening last October) Sichuan restaurant in the Pacific Renaissance Plaza in Oakland Chinatown. Apparently it is on the top floor, and has a patio for outdoor dining.

I've been hesitating to post, because I've only had delivery, but everything has been delicious.

Cumin beef (no lamb) -- I like this version. Some versions are very dried out, but this is moist without being saucy. The beef was tender and it was spicy with both peppers and cumin.

Wontons in chile oil -- I love this dish, and this is also a good version.

Shanghai fried soup dumplings -- I didn't order the xiao long bao because they don't travel well. These are now at the top of my craving menu: even after a trip home they spurted when I bit into them. The loose filling was delicious.

I've never cared for Spices III -- the flavors always seem muddy to me. This is a great new alternative. I can't wait to check it out more thoroughly when I'm not housebound (now vaccinated, but limited mobility with a broken foot).

Anyone know what "cow louver" is?
