Chronicle food section, today, March 24

Nathan Landau | Apr 24, 200203:17 PM

I'm not a big Chronicle fan by any means, but I think Chowhounds will be very interested in today's Food Section. It's titled "The Changing Face of Bay Area Cuisine" with the subtitle "Booming ethnic communities define an exciting new food scene." It includes articles on Mexican groceries and restaurants in Sonoma County (Melanie's labor rewarded?), South Bay farmers' markets, Hawaiian food, Filipino food in Daly City, Indian food in the South Bay and 99 Ranch markets. There are recipes for Green Mango Salad, fried chicken with chipotle gravy, fish tacos, and other goodies. Rather a different approach than Michael Bauer's.

The Mexican food in Sonoma County piece was written by Janet Fletcher. I'm really glad to see that she's a Chronicle staff writer. Her tenure as food editor of the Oakland Tribune food section was the one era when it was worthwhile and chowhound-friendly.
