New Christopher St. Cuban: Mixed; and odd arepas!

xavier | Nov 4, 2002 10:04 AM

Went to Havana Village, a just-opened Cuban spot on Christopher near Bleeker. Some things were great: papa rellenas and a chicken adobo sandwich I'm dying to have again.

Other stuff was bland. The sauce-covered Chicken Maggie was tasteless; as were the black beans. Service was really, really spotty (but it's been open less than a month.)

And the arepas were different thant anything I've ever seen. They weren't little flat cakes; they were big round balls, the size of an egg, with burn marks from the grill. Interesting....and totally tasteless. Not sweet, not corny, nuthin. Anybody ever seen anything like these???

I'm willing to give it another try (though another reviewer here said the tradtional "Cuban" sandwiches were terrible..
