Thanks for all the recommendations Chowhounds! We had a great time visiting your restaurants this weekend.
We ended up at the Time Café on the Thursday night (the tuna tartare was very good, a nice balance of the soy reduction and tuna).
On Friday we went to the Burger Joint (excellent burgers, the quality of beef was very impressive for a burger and I loved the hole in the wall location!). We went to Sido for a very average falafel but we did get great service. Then we trekked up to Taqueria y Fonda (many thanks for the heated burrito advice Mike and A&W, it was a very entertaining read beforehand and we did take your advice and tried out the carnita burrito the three of us (2 ex-SFers and a Torontonian who spent a lot of time at Al Farlito) all agreed that it was pretty close to the SF mission style burrito we were looking for. We gave it an 8 out of a 10. They need to work on the rolling and wrapping bit but the pork was pretty bang on. We finished the night at Gabrielas.
On Saturday we checked out Havana Chelseas Cuban sandwiches (2 thumbs up) and Caracas Aperas (the reina pepiada arepa was outstanding). We had Katz for lunch and the Chocolate Bar for dessert (talk about overindulgence!). We went to Celeste for dinner (involtini di melanzane was a particular favorite) and Edgars Café for dessert.
On Monday we had a light lunch at Saigon Grill before hopping on the plane ride home. We had a map and we did travel. Well be back for some more goodies soon. Thanks everyone!
