Thanks Chowhounds - Here's Your "Best Recent Monterey Recs List" - Merry Chanukah!.

A hearty Chanukah "Ho, Ho, Ho!" and thanks to the great reports of Toodiejane, e.d., Food Tyrant, Susancinsf, Carb Lover, and Lance Monsohoff I've compiled a list of recent recs for Monterey county (plus - Aldo's at the Marina in SC for fish).

La Giostra - on Munras Monterey near Del Monte shopping center.
ribolitta soup, margherita pizza, taglierini al prosciutto, branzini livornese, squid, sea bass w/ grapes, tiramisu, zabaglione. Mod. Priced.

Garcia Taqueria - Seaside off Fremont next to Domino's. Inexpensive.
Tacos, tortas, burritos - cabeza, lingua (tongue), al pastor. TV blaring - para llevar to the beach.

El Miguelino (NR) off Fremont in Seaside - Salvadoreno - fish items (except for quesedilla -avoid) pupusas, fried plantains. Inexpensive.

Passionfish - across from the post office in PG.
Crab cakes, mac n/ cheese, pork belly, (short ribs not so great). Mod. Priced. Sustainable eats a specialty.

Max's Grill - PG on Forest & Lighthouse. Duck ravioli,
citrus sauces.

Tommy's Wok - Carmel. Local folks eat here, French trained chef. Lance's rec.for Chinese in the whole area.

Stoke's - downtown Monterey. Sophisticated, elegant.
Adobe building. American. Mod. Priced.

California Market - just south of Pt. Lobos on Hwy.1 in the Highland's Inn. Inexpensive. Fabulous view. Fish Tacos, burgers.

Bruno's deli - Carmel. Good coldcuts, sandwiches, tri-tip. Take out. Be careful about their salads - maybe ask for a little taste (tabouli was weird). (NR)

Pho King - Fremont in Seaside. Good pho, good shrimp salad, rice and noodle bowls. Inexpensive.

Britannia Arms - Monterey next to the Osio theater - inexpensive, great pub food, comfy booths, blue plate special type choices, big deli sand., corned beef, fried squid, comfy booths. (NR)

Chicken Scratch Flats - Salinas next to the Steinbeck Center. Inexpensive. Absolutely delish. rotisserie chix combos, salads, great ruben sand., giant cakes in a glass display case (always love to see that!)(NR)
