My parents just came back from a trip to Iceland. They brought back with them this unbelievable spread called "Ishavskaviar mix". I think it is a salmon or salmon roe based spread because of it's orange color.
It comes in an aluminum squeeze tube and is an orange colored paste. I just spread it on a Carr's cracker and devoured my tube within a day. The taste is unbelievable. A little salty, a little briny and nothing short of delicious is the best way I can explain this but this does not do this paste justice.
This product comes from Norway because I read on the label the words Norge. Everything else on the label I dont understand because I dont speak whatever language it's written in (be it Icelandic or Norwegian).
If anyone out there has heard of this or knows of a place where this is sold in the city, I emplore you to please share your knowledge. Please don't make me have to fly to Iceland to ship cases of this spread back here with me.
I did go ahead and do a Google search for ishavskaviar and all I got was a bunch of Scandanivian websites, none of which had an english translation.
So once again, if you have any knowledge of this or similar Scandanivian products, please hook a fellow chowhound up.
