Chowhound political alert--Oakland set to nix two new taco trucks

Nathan Landau | May 15, 200204:45 PM

I don't know if anyone's interested in this sort of thing, and I can't go to the meeting myself, but the Oakland Planning Commission has before it tonight two applications for new taco truck locations (apparently in some areas they need permits). The permits are for two separate locations along 98th Avenue. In both instances, the City staff has recommended against approving the permits, which means that they face an uphill battle. In one case, staff says that the truck wouldn't fit with the Airport area plan, in the other that it would cause a parking problem.

I offer no judgement on the validity or importance of staff's concerns. The URL below should get you to the Planning Commission agenda, and the full staff reports on these trucks are linked there.

If anyone wants to go and speak up for taco trucks the meeting starts at 6:30 tonight, at Oakland City Hall, 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza (one block west of 14th & Broadway), in Hearing Room 1.
