Well, we got a date with the Inspiration Cafe, May 20, 2002. Starting at 4 PM (cooking) and 5:15 (service). It's a Thursday night. Believe me, weekends are gone for the forseeable future.
Now, here's the bad news. They really only need 8 people at a time, and only 4 to cook. The other 4 will serve. More and there's just no room.
If there are more than 8 people that want to do it on May 20, we'll have to work out a system. Still, there are 3 mitigating factors. First, the Inspiration Cafe believes that additional dates will open in the next 6 weeks. It seems another organization has signed up for a bunch of nights, and the Cafe does not know if they will actually use those nights. So, we might just split into two groups. Second, since we are responsible for cooking all the dinner that night, people can participate by preparing some dishes ahead of time that we can serve that night. Perhaps people not going to the Inspiration Cafe can meet at someone's house to do some cooking. Last, you can donate to the evening, either with cash or with food. It is our responsibility to provide all the food we will serve.
If you are interested, please e-mail me to the above address. Please indicate if you want to be there on May 20 or if you are willing to participate in some other way. Also, let me know what I left out.
Joan, you mentioned a food pantry. I know there is at least one on the West side as my daughter's brownie troop has been there.
I am sure we can coax a trip to Lakeview Lounge or Shan afterwards (or both!)
