At the instigation of a few folks folks on the SF board who will remain nameless (Celery & Melanie Wong), we are going to meet in Las Vegas and eat at least two meals at the estimable Lotus of Siam, on November 29 & 30. All Chowhounds are welcome to attend.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the restaurant that Gourmet's Jonathan Gold has called "The best Thai restaurant in North America," LOS offers most of the dishes that are staples of most Thai restaurants, it features the cuisine of northern/northeastern Thailand, and Issan specialties.
Lotus of Siam is run by two of the most wonderful restaurateurs I've ever known, Bill and Saipin Chutima, and they go all out for groups, particularly ones who show an interest in their specialties. Depending upon the interest, we thought we might have at least one banquet at night, where many dishes could be sampled for a flat rate.
We don't want to turn this board into a party line, but if folks have questions or want to express an interest in coming, you can post here or email me privately. Right now, no firm plans are made (would we, for example, want one lunch and one dinner, or two dinners?). But we do want to give the restaurant some notice of how many people to expect; knowing the Chutimas, they will want to prepare some off the menu treats for us.
Of all the restaurants that I've learned about through Chowhound, Lotus is the one that has meant the most to me. Thanks to Jonathan Gold and Tom Armitage, in particular, for showing the way.
