Eight of us met this afternoon for lunch here. This is the Persian restaurant in Falls Church, in the motel on Route 7. As you can imagine, the decor isn't much, but it was clean, however, the food more than made up for it. It was Steve (the organizer), Roe, Pappy, Marty L., Bob. W., Jen B., Dave, and myself. We started with 4 appetizers-an eggplant dip that was more of a puree but not like baba gannouj. It was a very dark color. Also there was a yogurt and cucumber salad which was refreshing. A salad of mixed herbs with feta. I think they may have forgotten the dressing on top since we had to ask for it. The third were garlic pickles. These were whole cloves of garlic braised in what resembled balsamic vinegar. Very good and didn't leave you with the dreaded garlic breath. The fourth were pickles. What this consisted of was carrots, zucchini, summer squash, rosemary, and garlic all minced then pickled. At least at our table of 4 it was the most liked.

Move onto entrees was a salmon kabob which everybody seemed to like-I heard mutterings of really tasting the grill flavor from people. Then a ground beef kabob. It was good, but no better than at any other kabob house. We got 2 orders of the lamb shank and a beef with eggplant dish. Speaking for my table the lamb shank was fantastic. Very meaty, not much in the way of fat, and tender as can be. Quite flavorful. I was partial to the beef with eggplant stew. This also came with lentils in it. The beef was quite tender also, just an overall good dish. We had rice with dill and lima beans and another rice (which our table only got a taste of since the other table was hogging it:)) which seemed to have dried cherries in it and a saffron hue. And of course, the best part of the meal was the crispy, bottom of the pot rice we requested.

Overall, I really liked this place. It really is a chowhound find-in a random motel in Falls Church. I liked everything we ordered with the beef and eggplant being my favorite and the beef kabob being just ok. It wasn't bad at all, it was just ordinary. I had a great time meeting everybody! I hope we get to do this again!
