Beyond Chow-worthy Italian + Bakery in North Van

1newyorkguy | Jul 24, 201711:03 PM     1

In the old Ethical Kitchen spot an italian restaurant has recently opened named Orto Artisan Pasta. They are making all pasta in-house and have an expanded garden that supplies their menu. It is literally fine dining quality food in a casual, extremely inviting atmosphere. The gnocchi I had was the best I've had.

They share the space with Bad Dog Bread. The baker will chat with you about the flour he mills himself and how he gets to work at 3 am to turn the sourdough every half hour. The brioche loaf is incredible. The salted chocolate chip cookie is the best cookie I've ever had. The fougasse bread with herbs de provence was fantastic and I had to eat my entire half in one sitting.

Go visit these places before they are packed. Mia Stansby is supposedly going to write them up very soon.
