2 weeks ago at Shalimar Indian spices & gifts (Central Sq., same side of street as the Harvest market) we lucked into hot pepper splendour- rapture indeed- truly, truly hot hot hot- a 5 X 3 or so plastic pouch crammed full of little green, green peppers( perhaps, what is called birds eye peppers? but they seem bigger than) about an inch and a quarter long- they are so amazingly hot- seemed hotter than most habaneros that one runs into, but still with a very green taste as well. They are so stupendious and the whole bag, stuffed with about a zillion peppers (well, if one takes into account the accumulated scoville units of all of them , it might indeed be a zillion '-') was only a buck- yes indeed- ONE DOLLAR for all of these amazingly inspiring, delicious beauties ( salsa verde anyone, in Indian curries, to munch on whilst eating mac n' cheese- no limit- green pepper ice cream. Let your hot pepper lust go wild into territories perhaps, you had only dreamed of...) Shalimar spices also has plastic jugs of excellent mango lassi and sweet lassi, and apps to go also ridiculously inexpensive- i.e. 5 good pakoras w/ 3 dipping sauces- tamarind and onion chutney come without asking but for some reason one must ask for the mint sauce- which adds no cost- again one dollar for this amount of piquant, good tea-time fare- ...Well, now I am salivating and starving- to eat, to eat to eat...
