Chorizo question

I"m going to be cooking a recipe that includes Chorizo sausage. At one point it says, "saute the sausage pieces in the olive oil...". My bet is that the author meant fresh Chorizo -- right ? I could only get the kind that comes shrink-wrapped -- I think that's considered dried.

Do you think that the dried Chorizo can be used in the recipe in the same way, by sauteing the pieces in the olive oil, then adding a little garlic, then adding mussels, chopped tomato to creat a sauce over pasta ?
