chorizo from brownsville tx area Mexican

When I lived in Orange Co. one of my room mates was from right on the border of Mexico and US in Brownsville area. Her parents from Mexico would bring small boxes of Chorizo made in Mexico. It was a white box about twice the size of a deck of cards. The chorizo was in small casings maybe an inch long, 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch wide. Very dry. We would flake it into scrambled eggs and wrap all in a tortilla. Does anyone know anything about these chorizos. I'm not fond of the more sausage like chorizo which is easy to find. Thanks
