Chocolate and More at Sky Meadow Apothecary in Santa Cruz

While the name implies more of a health/medicinal store, it houses some exotic chocolate treats which everyone knows can cure a broken spirit or heart. Below is a link to their website and a photo of their downtown facade from their website. It's right off of Pacific on Cooper St. but doesn't have the greatest visibility.

Worth seeking out, Sky Meadow carries a small line of Vosges chocolates...the closest you will find these unique Chicago-originated confections is in SF. Right now, they have the "exotic caramel collection" (a box of 9 exotic caramels for $28 for 8+oz) as well as about 6 exotic candy bars ($6ea) seasoned w/ all kinds of unique spices, nuts, and salts. I couldn't resist the box of caramels and a Barcelona bar (blend of milk and dark chocs w/ smoked almonds and gray sea salt). Can't wait to start sampling tonight...

They also carry Kakawa Cocoa Beans (from Austin, TX) that sound potent and delicious but a bit pricey at $9 for around 3 oz. Maybe I'll get those next time. I also spotted some tonics and teas from the LA-based E-lix-r store, but didn't have a chance to peruse. Tonics are mixed w/ sparkling water and teas can be brewed there to go. The owner is originally from LA and was very friendly and passionately familiar w/ her products. She seems to know how to handle the chocolate properly.

I hope people will go check this place out and buy some of the products so that the owner will continue to offer such nourishing nibbles. BTW, Best of Everything (BOE) just north on Pacific has Aztec Hot Chocolate from NY's MarieBelle, but I didn't buy it. Ok, so none of these things are produced locally, but I have to make exceptions in life and I am supporting local business.
