Chocolate-covered hazelnuts and dulce de leche cookies

I was in Laurel Village yesterday and spotted 2 new items which I had to try:

1) Triple chocolate hazelnuts at Charles Chocolates

The triple chocolate almonds are my favorite thing at this store. The hazelnuts are good, but I still prefer the almonds (I think because the nuts themselves are larger). What makes these great is the coating, which melts in your mouth (yet doesn't get all over your hands... hmmm, that makes it sounds like a completely different candy) and strikes a nice balance between sweet and bittersweet.

2) Dulce de Leche cookies at Sweet Things (inside Cal Mart)

These are like alfajores but aren't called that. The cookie part is extremely flaky, really more like pastry. I think I would have liked it better if it were more like shortbread. The filling was good and the girl at the counter said they make their own dulce de leche. Overall, the flavor was good but the cookie too flaky for my taste. I still can't compare this to alfajores from Destino or anywhere in the Mission because I haven't made a trip over there yet.
