went to chipotle mexican grill this afternoon. this branch just opened up on wednesday, and i think this is the first in the tri-state area.
chipotle is known for being one of the 'quick casual' or 'adult fast food' chains (like cosi, panera, etc). i think it may have similar menu items to baja fresh.
i ordered a chicken burrito, which came with 'cilantro-lime' rice, beans (i chose black), salsa, medium salsa (there is medium roasted chili-corn available), sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. the burrito is prepared right in front of you, so you can request what you do and don't want in it.
i'm pretty low-maintenance when it comes to food, and i definitely do not consider myself a burrito expert. however, the burrito was pretty damn good. i really liked the cilantro-lime rice better than plain rice which I usually get in burritos, and the (tender!) chicken had a nice smoky flavor. the burrito measured about 3 inches in diameter and 6 inches long and was fairly heavy, so my shorts were straining at the end :)
prices are pretty reasonable given the size of the burrito--from 5.95 (for vegetarian) to 6.75 (for steak/beef). you can also order chips and guac, beer, and margaritas.
the dining area itself was pretty slick looking, and includes bar-type tables/stools and an upstairs dining area. (there is also a very small outdoor dining area in front)
chipotle is located on 44th between 3rd and lex. if you work/live around the area (or are near grand central!), i would definitely recommend trying it one day....
