Best Chinese Savoury 'Turnip Cake' in town?!

Charles Yu | Jan 31, 201107:23 PM

With the Chinese New Year fast approaching. 'Tis the season for all types of savoury cakes, be it taro, turnip, water chestnuts or the chewy 'annual' cake. Literally every Chinese supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants are putting out these products.

Fellow foodies, which and where in your opinion sells the 'Best' turnip cake?!

I am looking for a product that has more turnips than dough, texture with substance and not too 'watery' or mushy and ample fillings/toppings of diced dried shrimps, Chinese preserved sausages, Chinese Shitake mushrooms and may be even some shredded compoy ( dried scallops ).

I noticed places like T&T or Chinese bakeries like Lucullus or Richmond Court are selling them at around $5-7 per cake whilst restaurants like Emperor, Regal16....etc are upward of $9+. Does that extra $2-3 guarantee a better product? One cannot tell until one takes one home, pan fried it and eat it! And I hate wasting money on mediocre products!

Thx!!
