The other day I was commenting to my husband that there are relatively few Chinese Restaurants in Uptown New Orleans and wondered why. My guess was that there were not many spaces available for a resonable rent(especially nowadays). My husband posits that there is not a demand for Chinese food (Uptown) and if there were the cost of rent would play no factor if the restaurant could make a profit. He also believes there is a stigma that Chinese food is considered low class food and that is why there is not a demand for more Chinese restaurants but there are more sushi or Thai restaurants because they are trendier, i.e. classier. Does anyone have any thoughts? I am not lobbying for a new Chinese restaurant but just looking for outside input into our "discussion".
