where do the chinese buddhists get their fake meat?

bokbokbok | Apr 30, 2005 12:19 AM

looove the chicken tender nuggest at vegetarian wok (on valley in sgv). dont like the 30 minute trek (without traffic) from west la and dont like to pay $8+ for it (although it is delicious).

would like to know if anyone knows of a place that sells something like it (it doesnt have to be breaded or deep fried) that i can use in my own cooking. i tried looking in places like trader joes or whole foods, but either im looking in the wrong section (frozen) or im just missing it.

i really really like all kinds of fake meat (including all varieties of tofu and gluten products) but i havent really found a source for good chewy kind of rubbery fake chicken. i know it sounds gross, but its really not. it needs to have that rubbery bite...

anyhow, i am willing to trek out to san gabriel area if i can buy that stuff in bulk anywhere. where do the hardcore chinese buddhists get fake meat?

thanks in advance?
