Just had a great visit to Chincoteage, Virginia. So much different than Ocean City and all those other overpopulated areas.
If you want to pig out with the locals with all you can eat fresh, not frozen, heads-on shrimp from North Carolina, try Ray's Shanty in Wattsville, just a few miles across the bridge.
If you want to eat the most serious and well prepared meals go to A.J's On The Creek.
Our appetizer was a combination of Oysters Rockefeller, Clams Casino and Deviled Crab. Followed by two good nice salads (Caesar with homemade garlic croutons and a garden salad with a homemade artichoke vinagrette) and hand-cut, aged steaks. The steaks were terrific and cooked exactly to order. Service was nice and professional without being overly friendly.
We ate outside on a screened porch and watched 20 baby and adult geese swim by.
I wish I had ordered the local Bouillabaisse dish which was placed before me by accident.
We purchased fresh shrimp, local clams, and softshell crabs from Gary Howard Seafood on Deep Hole Road.So darn fresh.
A great place to visit if you are interested in the outdoors. Assateague Island and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge are well worth a visit. NASA on nearby Wallop's Island is great for rainy days. We love this place.
Almost forgot to mention Muller's on Main Street for Ice Cream and their Hot Sauce store. They are owned by a couple of teachers from Delaware.
