Just spent a relaxing week on Chincoteague island. Beautiful weather, ponies, warm water, I love going there. BUT, if only I could look forward to eating there! Actually there were a few surprises.
Dinner at Little Saigon on Main St. was a pleasant surprise. Their seafood Pho was good, as were the other dishes we ordered. They served huge portions and the prices ($7.95-10.00) were very reasonable. We were also steered to the Garden & Sea Inn in New Church, a few miles up Rte. 13 off the island. A beautiful victorian Inn serving a short, but very good menu. The Salmon, Chicken and Rack of Lamb were all quite good. They also have a VERY reasonable wine list as well.
Now for the down side. I was disappointed with Wheeler's BBQ on Maddox Blvd. Reasonably priced and huge portions but I was looking forward to authentic southern BBQ and it was not. Ribs were OK, pulled pork was OK, generally average at best. Being from Philadelphia I should have known better to order cheese steaks and hoagies (uh, I mean "subs"). Definitely pretty bad. Their pizza leaves a lot to be desired as well.
Go to Chincoteague for a lovely family (or couple) get away. Enjoy the beach and sun because their ain't that much going on chowhound-wise.
