Chinatown Manhattan (new community, new cuisine)

I heard from a Chinese friend that the real Chinatown (areas other than Mott St and surrounding) are no longer the Chinatown we used to know. He said the Cantonese have moved away and opening new doors for a new community in the area. Now Chinatown is populated by a majority of Fukkienese.

So, I would like to know if anyone in this board know anything about this new demography in Chinatown, and thus can recommend any good Fukkienese restaurants, which according to my Chinese friends, have blossomed everywhere around East Broadway area and other non-tourist destinations (Shanghainese and Cantonese restaurants). A brief information on Fukkienese food would also be appreciated.
