China Star: Too Much of a Good Thing??

Bob W. | Jun 30, 2004 11:03 AM

Last night I got takeout from China Star. Mrs. W. did not participate other than to share the scallion pancakes, so I just got hot stuff.

Unfortunately, I got overwhelmed by chili oil.

I got the highly recommended baby wontons in chili oil sauce, so no surprises there. And they were quite good. But the "dried shredded spicy beef" and the "tiger green pepper" also both had a surfeit of chili oil. Unless you're with a big group ordering tons of dishes, don't get these two at the same time. And, even though the beef dish is listed as "numbing" on the menu, it's not nearly as hot as the capsicum chicken, which is listed as merely hot.

So lesson learned. Ordering at China Star is not a slam dunk.
