Chili Garden in Medford Sq. - Inconsistent?

JT | Mar 21, 200609:54 PM     22

Friends took me to Chili Garden for Sichuan a couple of months ago and it was fantastic. Lots of sichuan standards (dry hot chicken, chili fish, etc.) plus a couple of new treats for me including an appetizer of wild greens with fresh garlic. Yowza. BUT! I returned there this weekend and was seriously underwhelmed. Some of the dishes were pleasing such as pork with baby ginger and dan dan noodles but others were either so hot that they lacked other flavor (tilapia in special sauce) or unforgivably bland (soup).

Has anyone been who has found this place to be inconsistent? Or perhaps they were just having an off night? I was so hoping to complete my Sichuan triumverate (Sichuan Garden, Sichuan Gourmet, and ??) thus covering my eastern MA Sichuan needs save for the south shore.
