Chicken Marsala opinions

Making this tomorrow and was going to use Marcella Hazan's recipe which is very simple reduction of marsala wine finished by swirling in some butter, no mushrooms, no cream, no chicken stock, etc. I have seen numerous recipes with the inclusion of mushrooms or cream or stock, are there any opinions on whether these add more than Marcella's simple recipe? I am thinking more in terms if the chicken stock or cream and if they add anything of significance not so much the mushrooms because I am making a wild mushroom risotto so I am not going to add mushrooms to the Marsala. Thanks for your help.
